We are down to exactly 2 weeks until we will be driving to Disneyland! Hurray!!! We are so excited. My boys can’t wait; Everyday {sometimes several times a day} they ask me how many more days until we go to Disneyland. So today I helped the boys put together a disneyland countdown chain. Everyday we will tear off a piece of the chain and when the chain paper links are all gone it will be the special day. Here is how we put it together. . .
Supplies:
- Black 12″ x 12″ Cardstock Paper
- Red 12″ x 12″ Glitter Cardstock Paper
- Yellow 12″ x 12″ Cardstock Paper
- White 12″ x 12″ Cardstock Paper
- Glue Stick or Stapler
Directions:
We cut our cardstock paper into 1-1/2″ x 12″ strips.
Once we had enough strips, I had the boys begin gluing the paper so that I could put them into a chain of rings.
On the black rings I cut a 1-1/2″ x 12″ strip in half (making it 1-1/2″ x 6″) and glued that also into a ring. Then we attached them like Mickey Mouse ears. Note: You could also use a stapler to put together the rings. I chose glue sticks so that my boys could do the majority of this crafting activity by themselves.
When we put together our chain, we made sure that the Mickey rings were every fourth (or any even number) this way the Mickey ring will always lay flat when hung.
Once the glue is dry you are ready to hang it. My littlest guy is only 16 months and would love to get his hands on a paper chain if hung within reach. So the older boys and I decided to hang it from the molding on top of the doorway to keep it within view, but out of reach. The boys will just stand on a chair or I will lift them up to tear-a-way a link to the chain every day. Note: Hanging it vertically down also works very well.
Let the official countdown begin. . .
