This design I created is patterned after the New York Love sign, except I decided to make the center have a heart cut out.
I imagine most of you know of the LOVE sculpture in New York City. My husband and I visited it a few years ago while in New York, but failed to get a picture with it, due to the long line and cold temperatures.
I love the simplicity of its look, so I decided to create a sign for Valentine’s day. I also have it painted on a pillow that is out year round.
- Underlayment
- 1″ x 2″ Pine Board
- Black Paint
- White Paint
- Love Template
- Gorilla Glue, clear-no foam
Step 1: Cut Wood
For this project, I went to Home Depot and found an incredibly lightweight, thin underlayment board (next to the particle boards).
Now cut the underlayment into a 11″ x 11″ square. Cut 2- 11″ frame pieces and 2- 12-1/2″ frame pieces.
Step 2: Paint Frame
I painted the pine board frame with a coat of black semi-gloss paint.
Step 3: Paint Underlayment
I painted the underlayment with a two coats of white semi-gloss paint.
Note: This is not sponsored, but I have found through trial and error that this is my favorite white paint … Behr Alkyd Semi-Gloss White Enamel (it also comes in a satin finish).
Step 4: Add Vinyl/Template
Once the paint is completely dry (wait at least 24 hours), I decided how big I wanted to cut my vinyl. The SVG and PDF files can be downloaded below.
OR you could print out the image and cut it out and use it as a template and paint the “Love” design on that way. Enjoy!
