Handmade Bath Fizzies

Handmade Bath Fizzies

Last month, I perfected my “recipe” for bath fizzies when I was asked to do it at a Relief Society activity. For our activity, I created tags that could be placed onto the bath fizzies container to help “complete the look” or to help label it if it would be given as a gift.

These handmade bath fizzies are a perfect idea for a gift. For the ingredients to make 9 bath fizzies ($0.70), an IKEA tray mold ($1.00), a glass container ($1.98), tags and string to tie the tag on with – it equals out to only cost $3.75. This cute gift is perfect for anyone you might know, especially since it is less than $5.00. If you want to skip purchasing the glass container, you can wrap up these bath fizzies in some cellophane and tie on a tag. This would make it only $1.75. It still amazes me how inexpensive it is to make these wonderful little spa treatments for home.

Here is what you will need . . .

[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:25]

Begin by combining the citric acid, cornstarch, baking soda and essential oil (I bought mine at Michaels) in a mixing bowl. Mix water and food coloring in a spray bottle. Note: I used the purple food coloring from McCormick’s neon colors.

Begin spraying mixture with only 3 sprays of liquid from the water bottle at a time and then mix well.

Note: If you add too much liquid at a time, you will activate the baking soda and your bath fizzies won’t have any “fizz” left when it comes to dropping them in the bath.

Keep spraying in liquid, only 3 sprays at a time and mixing well after it’s added, until mixture can hold a shape when squeezed very tightly. I did the “squeeze test” after 10 sets of sprays. {A set = 3 sprays from the water bottle.} It wasn’t quite enough liquid so I did a few more sets of sprays.

Note: I ended up doing 14 sets of sprays in all (totaling 42 sprays from the water bottle).

Not enough moisture added to the mixture.

Perfect moisture!

Spoon half of the mixture into the mold. Press the mixture down firmly.

Spoon the rest of the mixture onto the mold and press down firmly. The mixture will press down and be level with the top of the mold.

Let it air dry overnight. When it is completely dry, remove the bath fizzies from the mold and place in an airtight container. My container I found at Walmart for $1.98. I think the brand was Anchor.

The labels/Tags: I printed the on photo paper and cut them out. I stuck the larger tag onto the lid of the container with glue dots. The smaller tag, I punched a hole in and tied onto the glass container. The PDF file for both sizes of tags can be downloaded below.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy these bath fizzies as much as we do!
