I love the look of the cute carriage house garage doors with the tinted windows and the black hardware. When we bought our home last year, I instantly wanted to update the garage door to improve our house’s curb appeal, but didn’t want to pay the $3000 for a new one.

I have seen others use painters tape to block off squares and paint faux windows. But I had the thought, why not just cut vinyl and stick it on like stickers, it would be so easy! So, I went to work designing the faux windows to cut out with my cutting machine. (Free SVG and PDF file below.)

I knew I also had to get hardware to create the look I wanted so I began looking for the style I wanted. I stumbled upon these GENIUS magnetic ones and ordered 2 sets. This was the only option when I bought mine, so I have this set. Now there are several options, so if I were to buy more hardware, I would go with this MUCH cheaper option that has great reviews. So, let’s get started on how to create a faux carriage house garage door . . .

Step 1: Clean Garage Door

Begin by cleaning your garage door. It will help give your garage door a newer look and help the vinyl have a nice clean surface to stick to.

Step 2: Cut Vinyl Faux Windows

I measured the size of the rectangle, on my garage door, that I would be applying vinyl to. (My rectangles are 7 3/4″ x 15 1/4″.) Download the images below and cut 2 of each image, then mirror the image and cut 2 more of each image. This will give you the 8 faux windows you need to create this look. After the vinyl is cut and your transfer tape is applied, you are ready to stick it to your garage door.

Note: I cut each image 7 3/4″ x 15 1/4″.

Step 3: Apply Vinyl

Take your vinyl faux windows and apply to your garage door. Here is how I always apply vinyl.

This is still a great look, if you decide against the hardware.

Step 4: Attach Hardware

Now just place your magnetic hardware on the garage door. That’s it! It’s fast and so easy. Enjoy!DIY Carriage House Garage Door
